9yo gelding by prolific American sire Lord Americo
Please go to the "News" page to read of the circumstances which led to the purchase of Leac An Scail on 31st Dec. `09, the day before he ran a creditable race at Cheltenham on New Years Day.
Prior to the Cheltenham race I had been very impressed watching him on At The Races when finishing an excellent second to one of Venetia Williams rising stars Mobaasher on 1st Dec.`09 at Southwell, but was frightened I might get my hand bitten off by Harvey if I expressed an interest in him!!
Imagine my amazement then when Sue and Harvey offered him to me after our fourth horse in the Partnership, the ill fated Quiet King, had bled for a second time and the decision was made to withdraw him from racing for good.
Have a look at Leac an Scails race record and I`m sure you will agree he will turn out to be the ideal "fun" horse for the McGoldrick (Leac An Scail) Partnership and who knows, once he gets his nose in front again he might just run up a sequence.

![]() For a Dancer Form | Video of win |
When For A Dancer was purchased as a 2yo colt at Tattersalls sale in October 2003 for 200,000 guineas.....yes 200,000 guineas...., it was hardly the plan for his first race to be almost SIX years later in a modest 2ml hurdle race at Newcastle in March 2009 as a 7yo gelding.
The redoubtable Harvey Smith and his wife Sue however have always welcomed a challenge.
I know full well this is true because they agreed to train for me a horse called Mister McGoldrick who came to their yard as a 4yo with a veterinary statement quoting that he would, in their vetsopinion, "be most unlikely to become a racehorse" After seven weeks at Craiglands Farm he went to Doncaster and won a 2ml nov hurdle by 25 lengths and followed it up two weeks later at Bangor beating a 5/2 on favourite by nearly the same distance. The rest is history.
Likewise with For A Dancer, being by Unfuwain Harvey liked him enough to buy him at DBS and bring him to Craiglands Farm to try and do what others had not been able to do. Whatever the reasons for his non existent flat career Harvey decided to despatch him to the moors on his land and there he stayed for almost two years.
He was eventually brought back into training and after three encouraging runs, For A Dancer got the hang of what he is bred to do by winning, in some style, a 2ml hcp hurdle at Uttoxeter, causing course commentator John Hunt to refer to him as having "some engine" Subsequent 2nds at Sedgefield and Worcester were improvements on his win at Bangor, and, in both races, had more waiting tactics been used, its not unreasonable to believe that his form figures would be looking even better.
But not to worry, the form is rock solid, his jumping is improving race by race, and in the short term he is a real exciting prospect over hurdles, and Sue rates him a super Chasing prospect for the future.

Kilkenny All Star
Form | Members Only
During the 2008/09 season he raced seven times over varying distances. 3 times at two and a half miles.... once at 3miles....once at two and a quarter miles.... and finally twice at 2miles. Undoubtedly his best race was when he got mugged on the line and finished second over two and a half miles at Musselburgh in January.
He is bred to get two and a half miles and, in time, possibly three miles.
Kilkenny has recently moved stables from Ferdy Murphy to Sue Smith (see "news" page) and following his summer break Sue will get him back in training with a view to racing him over two and a half miles, and then maybe even further if he is true to his breeding.
He is very lightly raced for his age, jumps really well and is nicely handicapped right now, and so we are extremely hopeful that there will be great days ahead for the horse and the great bunch of guys, (and Mary) who make up with me, The McGoldrick (Kilkenny) Partnership.
One share is still available.

Consequently I have discussed my McGoldrick Partnership concept with Tom Tate, and with an amicable agreement the horse has now left the yard and will be trained by Sue Smith from now on.
Final Veto is currently having one of
Whether he will jump fences remains to be seen, but if Sue can get him up to McGoldricks hurdle mark of 140, we`ll have some real racing pleasure ahead of us, and Sue is the ideal Trainer to deliver the goods.
